Detailed and interesting book

I found this book to be very informative. It is very clear and concise. So much so, that I recommend (if you're like me) that you should read the core section twice. A lot of stuff didn't really stick. It's an awesome reference, and it's more along the lines for people who are actually interested in computers, not just the money-hungry people looking for computer jobs. It gives all kinds of cool/historical information on OSs and Hardware. It does cover everything you need to know. I recommend getting the exam cram book to though. There are some things that are hard to remember, especially since the book is nearly 1000 pgs. All in all, this is a very educational book, and it covers a lot more than it's cracked up to.

Not bad

The guide is lacking in some areas, but is still okay. But if you are looking for a challenge, try doing what I did; beat it first, then buy the guide, see what I missed, then start over.

It's really a great book.

Hmm..I am a teacher who teach programming language. This book is really a great book, but "It's not for begginer".

I think it's great because ,
1. Andrew describe the technology which is "under the hood", and this make the book huge but details.
2. It always explain everything using the CIL(Intermediate Language), It's good for me. Every technology he talk about can convince me .A lot of C# book are just teach to "for , if , while...even OO inheritance, polymorphism...",I am tired about read that kind of book. It's enogh, no deeply talk about C# and .net except this one.

3. Ok, That must admit that this book is a little complex and hard in reading especially reader who don't have programming experince . It's better be a second book for you , or maybe third ....

On my comment, I suggest that If you are already familiar of some OO Programming language, like Java or C++ or VB.Net. Otherwise, it's better if you already know COM , and some popular popular technologies .

Enjoy this book. by the way, it's more than 1100+ pages.(really huge for me), you may need more patient.

Be careful of these reviews...

This book was used as the text book during my first year in university in a C programming course. It was a very comprehensive book for starters and has a lot of very practical, industry-oriented tips. Now, years after I have finished the course, I still have the book with me. One very important thing that I picked out from the book which I always pass on is "A working program without comments is a time bomb waiting to explode." Many more of such "ultra practical" tips in the book.
