Title: Final Fantasy IX Official Strategy Guide
Publisher: Brady Games
Authors: Dan Birlew
Rating: 1/5
Customer opinion - 1 stars out of 5
Not a guide to FF9, but a guide to PlayOnline

This book is supposed to be a strategy guide for Final Fantasy IX. I bought it expecting to be told where all the hidden secrets are and a detailed walkthrough of the game. Instead, I get paragraphs telling me, "There's a secret hidden item in this town that very valuable to have. For more information, go to PlayOnline." NO! I DIDN'T PAY $12.00 TO BE TOLD TO FIND OUT ONLINE!! I say we boycott this book and show whoever is responsible that we don't appreciate being tricked. This book should at least tell its customers that if they don't have internet access or don't feel like signing-on every 2 minutes to find out the information you paid to have in print, then this book is USELESS!! A definite bomb!

Title: Establishing a System of Policies and Procedures
Publisher: Project Management Institute
Authors: Stephen Page

Lots of mashed potato - no meat

I was disappointed by Steve Page's book and cannot share the rave reviews of other Amazon buyers. Despite making a strong case for adopting policies and procedures, the author devotes only one sentence each to their definition. No examples or exposition is given and the book goes on to treat the two as inseparable notions - the term "policies and procedures" must appear hundreds of times without individual treatment. What I really needed was a process model for analysing a business area to develop policy and procedure. This was entirely missing. That several pages are devoted to the selection of the binder, is evidence that this is a book for the simpleton. Further evidence is the author's tendency to state the obvious. On page 61 we are cautioned, "Careless spelling mistakes should be avoided". I suggest to intelligent people: avoid the book too

Title: Beginning Visual C++ 6
Publisher: Wrox
Authors: Ivor Horton
Rating: 2/5
Customer opinion - 2 stars out of 5
Did same author write the second half?

As several others have noted, there is a substantial style difference between the first and second halves of this book.
The simple direct elegance of the first half was replaced by quite the opposite in the second half.
This is a very good book for C++.
It is a far less desirable book for Visual C++.

It's an excellent book for undergraduate students!!!

It was by chance that I learned from this book. A student of mine went to California on vacation and she bought it. Later she showed it to me. I found that "MICROBIOLOGY an Introduction" is a very good text book. I use, and recommend it to the students at the Faculty of Dentistry at the Santa Marķa University, USM.
