A must for former darkroom photographers.

Darkroom photographers learn to analyze a photo. This book takes the analyses you have perfected over the years and tells you how to use Photoshop 7 to perfect your images. The step by step approach focuses on the process, not the myriad of possibilities with every Photoshop tool. From the first image you work with using this book, you will quickly get results, and begin to build your knowledge of Photoshop.
The book sits beside my monitor, and is used several times a week. Wish my kids came with instructions like this...

Title: Essential COM
Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional

Rating: 5/5

Not for the typical programmer!!!

This book is all about the nuts and bolts of COM. If you want to get under the hood and really learn how COM works, read this book. It is the standard used in learning how a COM application works and how to debug it if it doesn't. If you are a programmer with a deep desire to learn some low level APIs and a more thorough knowledge of COM, this is a MUST HAVE resource. To those people that gave this book bad reviews due to its lack of a "big picture" view of COM, they are right, do not come here if you are looking for any kind of picture, this book is a low-level technical guide for the REAL COM programmer.

I highly recommend this book. I purchased it about 2 months after starting development of a Java-based GUI. This book paid for itself in the first week, based on the time I saved. It has excellent code examples that are well commented - each example has a section titled "Understanding the code" which explains exactly how each Swing component is used in the code. The sections on JTable and JList were the most valuable to me. I have modeled all of my tables on the examples in the book, and was able to write my own renderers to handle the unique data I was displaying in the tables (combination of icons and text). I have used this book more than any other on my shelf - it's well worth the price!
