Good reference

Not exactly the most gripping thriller I've ever read (i.e., could be used instead of sleeping pills if reading more than a few pages at a time), but it is EXTREMELY informative for reference purposes. If you're reading this from cover to cover to try learning HTML, I'd suggest stocking up on coffee...or using one of the Visual Quickstart books instead. However, if you already know some HTML, This book is EXCELLENT for reference and brushing up on tags you've not used lately.

Title: Essential System Administration, Third Edition

Shouldn't Be Your First Book...

Your first book should be "UNIX System Administration Handbook" by Nemeth, Snyder, Seebass, & Hein. I always turn to that book first. I am not sure I would buy Frisch's "Essential System Administration" again. Definitly try to get it used if you do buy it. Looking in this book is often a last resort, and often if I haven't found the answer in my other two books, then it normally isn't in this one either.
It is a big book, much of which I feel is fluff, but if this was your only book on the topic, you would still be ok. The wording just isn't as clear as I'd prefer.

Not quite worthless, but close

I was not pleased with the contents of this book in terms of sloppy editing and in the paltry treatment of important topics. Those of us in pursuit of the MCP or MCDBA will have to augment this book and what we take from this book with other more complex books dealing with design and implementation. Do be prepared to purchase additional books on T-SQL programming and do be prepared to purchase real exam prep software.

Absolutely Excellent

It's not for beginners, but if you've already know C, Java, or some amount of C++, it's the only way to go. It's complete and the only book I've seen which covers the new keywords (export, namespace) and the new features (STL, etc) fully.
