Title: Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach (2nd Edition)

The most comprehensive book on AI

Artificial Intelligence: A modern approach is definitely the most comprehensive book on AI I have come across. The latest edition covers everything from KR & Machine Learning to Robotics and Statistical learning, and has new chapters on Constraint Satisfaction Problems and Planning. Artificial Intelligence has diverse branches and it's hard to see the correlations between them. This book manages to take a very innovative "agent" approach and tries to show some parallels between very disparate methods. In my opinion, each branch of AI has made great progress by itself but more work needs to be done in trying to combine the different approaches together and create more comprehensive systems. The book does a very good job by making all these different approaches accessible in one volume. This book also covers each topic in depth as well. Interested readers can always look at the exhaustive list of references for further reading. I have seen a variety of people use this book: from professors who have been in the fields for many years, to my friends in humanities who are just curious to know what AI really is. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in AI.

Excellent...But!

This is a very well thought out book. Being that I am relatively new to Lightwave I had a bit of difficulty with the book and spend a great deal of time trying to figure out how to use some tools which I have not had the chance to use before. I think before one wishes to use this book that they get a good grasp of tool useage first and then this book will make much more sense.

The other complaint. I know I gave it four stars on content which I think it deserves but there are a few things which could have been better. The screenshots were too small (approximately 2 inches square) and when you have a figure with a bunch of polygons and points it gets very confusing which to select to follow the lesson. Also, when author interchanges the term "move" with "Drag" and "Extend" instead of "Extender Plus" it gets a bit frustrating until you figure that out and make the correct choice.

Like I said, I am new to Lightwave and as a beginner I just think one's time would be better spent learning the tools before one starts in with these lessons. Otherwise the book is great. My first character is coming along just great. It just takes me a bit longer because I am not only learning how to make a character but also how to use tools I have never used before. If you have patience then this is great.

The Art of Deception --- TRUTH!

As a Technology Director, security is a huge risk. I purchased this book to find out what it was all about. Social Engineering is an incredible Psychological episode, and the authors have explained it very meticulously that hopefully everyone will get a warning before an attack occurs. If you are in the Information Technology field I highly recommend this book on everyone's bookshelf. If you are not in I.T., I would still recommend reading it, because you may not be ready for a social engineer attack. My congratulation goes out to the authors of this book.

Broad detailed coverage of CVS for beginner and intermediate

The broad coverage of the many features of CVS is excellent. Many subjects are covered in the right amount of detail without getting bogged down in the technical. As a CVS beginner the book is just right. Not being a more advanced user I can't comment further on the previous reviewers comments. But I believe that the aspiring CVS admin will find the book very helpful, touching on topics that will spark investigation for more.
