A smooth transition from Unix to Win32

I recommend this the book to all experienced programmers interested in learning the Win32 API. It covers all the core system services that you need to learn first. If you need to tackle the GUI you can try 'Programming Windows' by Petzold. Of course I'd suggest that you go the .NET route or get a good toolkit (not MFC) instead. If you want to move on to more advanced Win32 programming try 'Programming Applications for Microsoft Windows' (if you can find a copy). To get into deeper system programming, you'll have to move on to the Undocumented/Native API books.

Great book for UNIX/Linux/Solaris beginners

I have read a few books on Linux and this is my first book on Unix and Solaris, so I am really new to the Linux/UNIX/Solaris world.
This book is by far the best book in the category for Unix/Solaris beginners and even if you are using Linux, I would recommend using this book to learn the UNIX commands.
I can't say anything bad about the book. It is clear, concise, easy to read, easy to understand, and after reading this book, I feel I know UNIX very well.
I would buy any book from this author, and I highly recommend this book.

Great - the only resource you'll need to pass A+!

Bought the book a month ago, read it twice and took both the Core and DOS/Windows test today. Passed with a 92(Core) and 89(Dos/Windows). Now, I'm A+ certified! No need to buy other expensive books or attend training courses. This book will prepare you to pass the test. It does have a few typos but is a great resource otherwise.

Title: Microsoft Windows Server(TM) 2003 Inside Out (Inside Out)

The best one for me

From now on I'm looking to see if William Stanek wrote a book on whatever computer or software I buy because I know if I buy it then I'll be ok. He makes everything easy. He writes as if he really cares if you understand the subject. I keep the Inside Out on my desk and refer to it often.

This is great, straight forward and concise. Concise? Its over 1500 pages BUT there's so much packed into every page it really is concise AND each subject covered is covered extremely well. Words cannot express how helpful Stanek is or the frustration and stress he can remove. Waiting for more wonderful insight into a computer/company that wishes they understood their own product as well as you. Thanks William Stanek.
