It may step you through VB but it doesnt explain it

I dont know why people keep saying this book is "great for beginners" because it definitly isnt. The author steps you through the techniques but doesnt bother to explain to you what each line of code does. Most of the time hes like "I'll explain more about this later on", but why even bother writing code that you know absolutley nothing about. It's like doing a tune-up on your car and not knowing what it is your doing or trying to accomplish. This book trys to explain WAY TOO MUCH info to you at once. Thats why there are individual books about databases and DHTML and activeX objects. But the author trys to cram it all in. After you read this book and try to create your own program, you'll wish you knew what all those lines of code in the book meant. In general, if you really want a book that explains these type of subjects, go with with a book by John Smiley, his Learn to Program books are great cause he really explains why it is you are doing something. And he tells you about the principles before you just break open the code window and start typing in stuff you have no idea about.

Title: CCIE Routing and Switching Exam Certification Guide

Good Reference Tool...

CCIE Routing and Switching Exam Certification GuideISBN: 1587200538
CCIE Routing and Switching Exam Certification Guide by Anthony Bruno is a very good reference for those preparing for the CCIE Routing and Switching Qualification exam. The book is broken into the following chapters:
1. CCIE Certification, Test Preparation, and Using This Book2. Networking Concepts Review3. Cisco Equipment Operations4. Local-Area Networks and LAN Switching5. Wide-Area Networks6. Internet Protocols7. Static Routing and Distance Vector Routing Protocols8. IP Link-State Routing Protocols9. Border Gateway Protocol10. Administrative Distance, Access Lists, Route Manipulation, and IP Multicast11. Traffic Management12. Multiservice Networking, IPX Networking, and Security
The chapters structure of the book follow the exam blueprint very closely. The main thing to note with this book is that it was originally written for the previous version of the qualification exam. So every thing that is included in this book is not necessarily still on the new blueprint.
The idea behind this guide is to provide key information pertaining to the items that are the exam blueprint. This guide was not meant to provide in depth detail on every topic. This is the main reason that the author included detailed lists of reference material at the end of each chapter. The content that was included was presented in a very clear, easy to follow format. Plenty of configuration examples were provided as well as debug and show command output.
One chapter that was well put together was Chapter 8. It did a good job describing the features of both OSPF and IS-IS. It covered the deployment and basic configurations of both protocols. It did not cover the advanced features of the protocols but it did include references to other books (that a CCIE candidate should already have) and links to CCO pages.
I was kind of disappointed with the material in chapter 12. Multiservice is fairly new to the Qualification exam so I am assuming that is the reason for the lack of information. Most topics just had a paragraph or two providing a definition of the service. Hopefully this will be corrected in the next version of the book.
The book provides different methods of testing you knowledge. There are questions throughout the book that allows you to tell if you grasping the content. A CD is provided what contains testing software that simulates taking an actual exam. I found the testing engine easy to use and the question clearly written.
There is no "one book" that can provide everything that you need in order to pass the qualification exam. I feel that Bruno did a good job putting this book together. As long as the reader has the idea that this book is just a tool to aid in learning the material, the reader should be able to get a lot out of it. If the reader is looking for a "one book" solution, this book is not for them.

Title: After Effects and Photoshop: Animation and Production Effects for DV and Film

A video producer's "must-have".

As a video professional who uses After Effects and Photoshop almost every day in the production of training and promotional videos, I thought I had a pretty good working knowledge of both programs. I was wrong. Jeff Foster's wonderful new book has opened my eyes to the real potential of both of these programs. From the very first chapter I started learning powerful techniques and features I was previously unaware of and how to use tools I had previously used in ways I never considered before. Personally, I learn best by working through hands-on projects, and this book is brimming with in-depth, highly creative tutorials. Jeff explains every step in detail and more importantly, why you are taking them. It is obvious Jeff is an accomplished professional, and he shares not only the After Effects techniques, but also the subtle nuances that raise a project from satisfactory to exceptional. After Effects has always been a favorite program of mine for 2-dimensional animation. But this book has shown me what a powerful 3D program it is as well. There are great chapters on blue-screen, rotoscoping, using mattes, adding photo-realism to your animations. And the projects are just plain fun. I can't tell you how many times I found myself working through a tutorial, previewing the animation, and just stopping to say "wow!" and to consider how I might use that technique in my own work. I have bought several After Effects books over the years, but this is by far the best I have read. If you are brand new to After Effects, you may be a little frustrated as Jeff assumes you have a basic knowledge of the program. But if you are an After Effects and Photoshop user looking to refine your skill and become a true professional, this book is for you. Highly recommended!

Great book for Network+ exam preparation

This is great book for Network+ exam preparation. It covers 98% of all you will need to know for exam. Coverage is sufficient, however one might require additional reading, if one is not familiar with some topic. There are quizzes at the end of every chapter, and two big quizzes at the end of the book. This book is highly recommended.
