A Good Basic Introduction to the CLR

Applied Microsoft .NET Framework Programming is a solid introduction to the CLR. Richter provides a peek under the hood of delegates, the garbage collector, finalization and application domains.
The book contains a mixture of practical advice and technical trivia. Some C# knowledge would be useful to get the most out of the numerous examples.
There is a good level of detail for such a readable book. If you want more technical information about IL and the CLR, Gough, J. "Compiling for the .NET Common Language Runtime (CLR)" might be a good follow-on from Applied .NET.

Fantastic book for anyone who codes for fun or work

This book will really make you take a step back at examine how you develop software. It will show you all the things you (and your team, if you're on one) could improve to really bring up your processes and skills. It goes through a series of best practices, going from topics like reducing duplication of all information (Don't Repeat Yourself - DRY), to the value of automation, to keeping separate systems distinct. It has many practical examples, both in code and diagrams, and a lot of resources to follow up on. Highly recommended.

Best book on Optical Networking

The book is an excellent source of information for network design and product development. It covers all aspects of optical network design. No other book covers this aspect of network design as this one does. Network classificaiton and explanation is very contemporary and cutting edge technologies are shown in the manuscript. The futures section covers technologies that seem most appropriate for real time networks. The simulation software is useful for physical layer design as well as network layer routing and wavelength assignment strategies....Looking to a second edition hopefully soon..

For a reference book, it does a terrible job providing a quick reference for the syntax. The book is very unorganized, and the diagrams are terrible. I don't suggest you buy this book.
