Excellent!

I was looking for an EJB book that would dispense with the "We love Java" credo of other books and get down to the nuts and bolts of EJB. This book does exactly that!
I know distributed computing (twenty years in the trenches) and I was pleasantly surprise to find out that the author of this book understands the issues. I recommend this book for people new to distributed computing and veterans alike. Chapters 2 and 3 were great architecture overviews of EJB. The chapter on transactions was a gold mine. The rest of the book is excellent.

Great for Intermidiate's

It's amazing how this book could get a range of five stars from some people and also get one star from others. What I found is that you do need to get a beginners book on java first and understand the basic concepts before understanding this book.
If you are learning java for first time, get a beginners book. period. Once you are comfortable, then read this book. This book is excellent on servlet programming for intermidiates. But it doesn't go far enough for advance programming. For that you'll need to find a more advance book (which I haven't found any yet) or go on your own. It's 100 times better than Karl Moss servlet book.

Another Great Book From Larry Ullman

Over the years I have been reading Larry's books. I have been hooked from his first book. This book like his others start out with the basics and then jumps into the advanced stuff. It also contains a lot of real world examples that someone could use for thier site right now. As always I truely recommend this book to people that are beginners thru advanced. I have always used his books as reference guides as well. This is a must buy and is worth every cent.

Passing the CISSP Exam

I see in the reviews of this book that it can be used for the CISSP exam. If you have taken the exam or are studying for it I'd like to ask you what you found or are finding to be useful in preparing for the exam. You can contact me at chris.mauro@esi.baesystems.com. If this book is the end-all be-all, so be it. I'm curious to know if the SRV books are useful or if the (ISC)2 seminar is this ticket. thx.
